A businessman who exploited Jews as a cheap source of labor, a drinker and womanizer, and even a member of the Nazi party for business reasons, Schindler gave up his wealth and his lifestyle to save over 1,000 Jews through providing them with safe haven in his munitions factory. Hardly the attributes expected of a hero, but Oscar Schindler was an unexpected hero in treacherous times.

There was even a movie based on Oskar Schindler called Schindler's List. Oskar Schindler was born on April 28, 1908 in Zwitlau, which is now part of the present day Czech Republic, to his father and mother, Hans and Louisa Schindler.

There are several books about him, many were even written by some of the Jews he saved themselves. They were a deeply religious family, which resulted in a strong catholic household for Oskar and his younger sister Elfriede.

The main conflict he faced was overcoming the Nazis and saving over one thousand Jewish People.

Schindler, with out a job at the time, joined the Nazi Party and followed on the heels of the SS when the Germans invaded Poland.

Oskar Schindler wasn't necessarily born of noble birth. The movie centralises itself around Oskar Schindler (wonderfully played by Liam Neeson) a womanizer, a war profiteer and a Nazi. However, Stern has an effect on Schindler which is part of the reason Schindler decides to save all his workers. Schindler's List is based on the novel Schindler's Ark by Thomas Keneally and is done wonderfully able to pull anyone's heart strings. The story of Oskar Schindler's sacrifices for the Jews sets this apart from other Holocaust dramas. However most movie critics will agree that Spielberg's most action packed film is one that retells the story of Oskar Schindler. The movie begins with Oskar Schindler a character flawed by gambling, womanizing, driven by greed and an insatiable lust for the high life. Oskar is a very compelling character due to his transformation into a selfless hero making him a round character.

Liam Neeson who plays Schindler does a superb job of brining him to life and drawing the audience into his world. Schindler's List is one of the greatest movies ever made about the holocaust. However, there is one man, Oskar Schindler, who stands up for what he believes in and despite the obstacles he knows he must confront, courageously challenges the norm, in order to free a people whom he knows are most undeserving of the punishment they receive. "Night," "Schindler's List," and "Our Story," were all written for basically the same reason. In "Schindler's List," Oskar Schindler becomes aware of the situation that is developing around him, and he feels great sorrow for the Jews. In "Schindler's List," Oskar Schindler tries to set a good example for the rest of his country, but no one cares enough to really try and find out what he is doing and why he is doing it.
